A Houston man found a newborn African-American baby in an abandoned dryer Tuesday as he was throwing out his trash at an apartment complex, a Houston TV station reports.
Police say that the man heard her crying in dryer near the trash dumpster at The Registry Apartments in southwest Houston at about 3 p.m., KPRC Local 2 reported.
The infant was in a black plastic garbage bag with the umbilical cord still attached and tied off with string, Houston Police told the station.
The 6-pound, 12-ounce newborn was spirited away to Texas Children's Hospital, where doctors say she is alive and recovering.
Hospital workers nicknamed the baby "Mia." Police are searching for the newborn's mother.
